Maxim Park Orchard

The secret is out and we are delighted to say that our plans have come to fruition, Maxim Park now has it's very own Fruit Tree Orchard!

This has been a labour of love and a collaboration of quite a few people to ensure that we did things right and that this project will have a lasting impact for decades to come! So read on to find out why we have done this and a little about the varieties of trees chosen!

So why create an orchard? It's a fair question! Planting an orchard boosts local biodiversity, creates sustainable, low impact food sources, revives traditional fruit growing heritage, improves air quality and provides essential habitats for pollinators. Plus the trees are beautiful and will have the most incredible blossoms in the summer months! The area chosen for the orchard is beside our wonderful allotment so pop down to see it!

What have we planted you ask? Rosie spent a lot of time researching trees that can withstand the Scottish climate and the wind we endure here at Maxim and settled on 5 trees, 4 different fruits selected for their hardiness, their potential harvest, and their ability to withstand disease. We have chosen 2 Egremont Russet Apple trees, a Conference Pear tree, a Marjorie's Seedling Plum tree and finally a Morello Cherry tree.

We want to thank GP Plantscape for their support and collaboration with Rosie on this project, especially Andy Bell, Adam Godwin & Colin Smith! Derek Jarvis and his team for the groundwork done to make the planting possible. Thank you to all of you!

It really is incredible to think that these trees planted today will be here years from now, still producing fruit and having an impact! What a legacy to leave!
