Meet the Maxim team – Emma Jones

Emma Jones, part of the Maxim Park team

This month we are delighted to welcome Emma Jones to the Maxim Park Management Team. Emma is a Graduate Placement who will be with us for 6 months, working as our Events and Sustainability Assistant. We have been chatting to Emma to find out more about her University studies and what she is looking forward to in the months ahead.

So Emma, please can you tell us a bit about the course you are studying at University?
I am currently in my third year at Edinburgh Napier University studying International Tourism and Airline Management. The course involves various modules including the Global Tourism industry, Festivals and Events and Market Research and Communications.

As these modules are very wide ranging, the course requires students to look outwards, understand a situation and capitalize on opportunities. We learn to develop a management team’s perspective that is relevant in today’s global business environment.

Overall, its a great and engaging course which has allowed me to learn and develop my skills and knowledge on a practical and theory level. As I am reaching the end of my studies, I feel the course has prepared me for a tourism and events-related career in the future.

Please tell us what excited you most about the graduate placement opportunity at Maxim?
I was really intrigued by what Maxim stands for, especially since Covid its great that Maxim Park focuses on having a great relationship with its tenants and offers them the opportunity to experience a better work life balance.

Bringing events and amenities into a corporate scenario can make work more enjoyable for everyone involved. I am also excited to learn the latest information about events and develop my skills. Gaining an understanding of how to plan, prepare and set up all types of events from small to major is what I am excited to know as it can help me further down the line with my future career.

What do you enjoy most about your course and how will your placement at Maxim help you achieve your goals?
I have really enjoyed the Events Management modules in my university course especially learning how to plan an event from scratch and how to make the event’s vision tangible. As this was a written assignment, we could not put this into practice.

At Maxim Park this will be possible to experience the event as planned and learn all the practices and methods to make it successful. Maxim can help me achieve my goals by giving me the opportunity to work 6 months in a working environment and help me broaden my skills whilst boosting my job profile. This will guide me in deciding the career path I would like to take in the future.

Can you tell us about how you go about travelling to and from Maxim each day?
I travel by car every day to and from Maxim – it only takes me 20mins.

Tell us about some of the facilities available to guests at Maxim?
Maxim offers a fantastic range of facilities including free exercise classes on site such as yoga and aikido. A fitness gym is also available for the tenants with a membership of only £14.99 a month, and a golf course for guests who are interested in keeping fit and active.

Maxim also has a fantastic retail hub: Regis coffee bar and bistro, Londis and Piece Cafe. Not only do Maxim supply these amenities they also have several types of events annually. The first event of 2023 is the new Maxim app launch occurring on Valentine's Day.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I have the cutest King Charles called Olly who is 9 years old.

What keeps you busy when you are not working at Maxim?
In my free time I really enjoy going to the gym and attending commercial dance classes. I try and travel as much as I can. In the summer, my goal is to travel to at least 5 countries in Europe.
