The building of a major new business complex is set to give the Scottish jobs market a significant boost, it has emerged. Developer Maxim has said that the office park - equivalent in size to 27 football pitches - will be occupied by an assortment of UK and international firms when it opens in 2010, providing thousands of new job opportunities. The 300 million development in Lanarkshire will be one of the largest business parks in Scotland, providing 756,000 square foot of office space, the BBC reports.

"We are already talking to potential tenants who will receive attractive financial packages to relocate to Maxim," said the firm's chief executive Karen Campbell.

"They will also benefit from working in a top class environment with high quality buildings, good transport links and have key accessibility to a highly skilled workforce," she added.

Edinburgh is expected to see a surge in the number of new jobs being created in its financial services industry next year, the Edinburgh Evening News reported this week.
